This film was the televised version of the sellout stage show, starring Anthony Sher as Macbeth and Harriet Walter as Lady Macbeth. It had an enormously successful run in England, Japan and the USA. It was filmed exclusively at the Roundhouse theatre in Chalk Farm, London, where Nicol Williamsons Hamlet had been filmed over 20 years before.
